Facebook Ads vs Google Ads: Which Should You Run First?

MARKVORO TeamAugust 25, 2026

This question comes up in almost every first conversation about paid advertising, and the honest answer is: it depends on what stage of demand you're selling into.

The core difference

Google Search Ads show up when someone is actively searching for what you offer — they already know they have a need and are looking for a solution. That's high intent: the ad meets a question the person is already asking. Facebook and Instagram Ads work differently — they interrupt someone's scroll to introduce them to something they weren't actively looking for. That's demand generation, not demand capture.

Neither is "better" in the abstract. They're built for different jobs.

When Google Ads makes more sense first

If your product or service is something people already search for by name or category — a plumber, a specific software category, "web development company Pakistan" — Google Ads puts you in front of people at the exact moment they're deciding. It tends to convert faster because the intent is already there; your ad just needs to win the click and the landing page needs to close the case. The tradeoff is that you're limited to the volume of people actively searching — if search demand for your category is small, there's a ceiling on how much this channel alone can do.

When Facebook/Instagram Ads makes more sense first

If your offer is something people don't yet know they want — a new product category, an impulse-friendly offer, something highly visual — Facebook and Instagram let you reach the right audience based on interests and behavior rather than waiting for them to search. It's also usually the stronger starting point for consumer brands with visually compelling products, and for building broader brand awareness before search demand even exists.

Why most of our clients end up running both

In practice, the two channels reinforce each other more than they compete. Facebook and Instagram build awareness and put your brand in front of the right audience; Google Search then captures the people who, a week or a month later, go looking for exactly what you offer — sometimes searching your brand name directly because they remembered the ad. If budget only allows for one to start, pick based on where your buyers currently are in that journey: already searching, or not yet aware they need you.

Don't skip conversion tracking

Whichever platform you start with, the campaign is only as good as your ability to measure what it actually produced — leads, sales, bookings — not just clicks or impressions. Get pixels and conversion events set up correctly before you spend serious budget, or you'll be optimizing blind.

If you're not sure which channel fits your specific business and budget, our paid advertising team can walk through your situation honestly rather than defaulting to whichever platform is easier to sell — talk to us.
